It's never easy to start over, especially when you're an adult. Being a military wife, we are expected to pack up and move at a moments notice whether that works with our social life or not. In the past four years, Tim and I have had four different "homes"... our longest one being at Fort Irwin. Leaving Fort Irwin was really hard for me because I had established such close friends and had gotten involved with so much on post. Now, I'm in that in between stage where my heart is still there, but I'm physically not there and need to move forward. I have to embrace the memories I have from Fort Irwin, be happy for those who are still there and are doing great things, and work on establishing myself here.
We've been in Virginia now for over a month and meeting new people hasn't been as easy as I thought it would be. Today though, my bubbly personality met it's match! While at the pool with Liam, another mom with two kids started talking to me and we immediately hit it off! It was odd to me that she was so forthcoming (because most the women I've met out here have been so standoffish)... come to find out she's an Army wife!! So that immediately explained her outgoing personality. As she explained "that's the way we have to be with all the relocating we do."
By chatting with her I learned about some of the groups she participates in and how to get more involved in the area. We exchanged info and I'm looking forward to getting to know her better. Liam loved her daughters and her daughters' friends; he even held onto the edge of the pool and walked halfway around it to go and play with all the other kids :) He shared his toys and loved watching all the kids and moms interact. It was a great day for both of us!
Trying to look forward more than backwards these days and eager to see what's in store for my family and me :)
